Approved by Transport Canada
Transport Canada has approved Victoria Medical Group to perform aviation medical exams. Exams begin in January 2027 at our North York clinic.
Pilots need a valid Transport Canada medical certificate, and only a Civil Aviation Medical Examiner can perform the exam for a first certificate or a renewal.
Dr. Rahim Valani, a Civil Aviation Medical Examiner (CAME), performs every exam. Dr. Valani is an emergency physician and medical educator with more than twenty years in emergency medicine and teaching.
What the Exam Involves
The exam covers your medical history and current medications, a physical exam, and vision testing. Depending on your age and licence type, it may also include an ECG or a hearing test.
After the exam, Dr. Valani sends the report to Transport Canada. For a first certificate, Transport Canada reviews the report and mails your certificate. For a renewal, a fit result is stamped in your aviation document booklet at the visit.
