Echocardiogram

An ultrasound of the heart. High-frequency sound waves image the valves and chambers to show how well the heart is working.

Preparation: Do not apply gel or lotion to your chest area on the day of your test. No other preparation is needed.

Stress ECG (Treadmill) and Stress Echocardiogram

A treadmill test that shows how your heart performs during exercise, recorded by ECG or by echocardiogram images taken before and after.

Preparation: Ask your doctor about your medications beforehand. Do not apply lotion to your chest on the day of your test. Wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes.

Contrast Echo and Contrast Stress Echo

A contrast solution injected into a vein during the echocardiogram shows the flow of blood through the heart and heart muscle.

Preparation: Follow the instructions given when booking.

Tell the clinic before your appointment if you have any medication allergies or have had an allergic reaction to a COVID vaccine.

ECG (Electrocardiogram)

A recording of the electrical activity of the heart, taken through electrodes placed on the chest.

Preparation: Do not apply lotion to your chest on the day of your test. No other preparation is needed.

24 / 48-Hour Digital Holter Monitoring

A small, portable recorder tracks your heart rhythm continuously over one or two days while you go about your routine.

Preparation: Shower before your appointment and do not apply lotion to your chest; the recording is non-stop and the monitor cannot get wet.

72-Hour, 7- and 14-Day Digital Holter Monitoring

Rhythm monitoring over three days to two weeks, for symptoms that appear only occasionally.

Preparation: Shower before your appointment and do not apply lotion to your chest. You can shower during the recording: our technician shows you how to remove the monitor and refit the electrodes.

24-Hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring

A cordless monitor worn on the arm measures your blood pressure at intervals over a full day and night, at home. Not covered by OHIP; an $80 fee applies.

Preparation: Our team gives you full instructions when the monitor is fitted.

Cardiologist Consultation

A cardiologist assesses your symptoms, history, and test results, then sends the findings to your family physician.

Preparation: Bring your health card, referral, and your current medications or a full list of them.
